troubled upbringing and strive towards understanding of both
purpose in life, and the value of it.
Dave and Lillian were honored with an award for "outstanding
use of various media in ongoing outreach work to reduce waste
in our environment" by the Recycling Council of British
Columbia. Seeds of Diversity also awarded them with a Certificate

has appeared in five hardcover anthology books and several
newsletters and magazines throughout North America. She has
had the honor of attaining Editor's Choice Award for Outstanding
Achievement in Poetry, not once – but twice. Dave won
an award for his photography through Cottage Magazine; his
photos grace the cover of both Towards Understanding and Purple
Snowflake Marketing.
The Brummets' also host an online radio talk show, Conscious
Discussions, which focuses on inspiring listeners to become
more proactive in their daily lives by sharing real-life,
positive stories. With the varied topics they cover, the Brummets
hope that listeners will realize their value as individuals
and be aware of the fact that they can make a real and visible
difference. ( http://www.blogtalkradio.com/consciousdiscussions

As
Percussionist, educator and drum manufacturers
Dave has played drums/percussion on stage and in the studio
for over 20 years and brings this knowledge and experience
to his Hand Drum Workshops. With rhythms from African, Middle
Eastern and Latin American roots, the workshops are well designed
for djembes, doumbeks, and congas, for beginners or intermediates.
Out of popular demand, a home-learning CD has been created
based on the workshops and is now available as Hand Drum Instructional
Series 1. Dave also teaches privately to hand drummers and
drum set players.
We
both work together to manufacture the Drum-it djembes and
talking drums from non-hardwood alternatives. The djembes
are of a hemp/fiberglass composite innovated by Drum-it
Percussion. The talking drums are constructed of PVC plastics.
All of our drums use traditional African methods of rope tensioning
and quality goatskin heads.
Dave
continues to perform live and occasionally participates in
various gigs and telethons, raising funds for charities.
As
Gardeners and seed savers
Gardening is our golf; it is our hockey and our meditation
grounds. It is also the best place to get fresh air, sunshine
and solitude - just the birds, worms and you. We enjoy hosting
intimate feasts at our home for family and friends using some
of our own recipes. As active members of Seeds of Diversity,
saving seed from non-hybrids and participating in seed exchanges
is an educational hobby with positive results. Helping to
save rare or threatened species from extinction, donating
seeds to low-income gardeners and taking bags of produce to
the local food bank are some of these results.
Outdoor
enthusiasts
Our free time is spent cycling BC's abandoned railways, canoeing
pristine lakes, or camping and backpacking among the cool,
mountainous forests in the summer. Come wintertime we hit
the deep, fluffy snow on our snowshoes or cross-country skis.
While
enjoying the outdoors, we practice what we call "clean
walking". This involves picking up trash along the way
whenever possible, and is discussed in our book, Trash Talk.
We support the Canadian Wildlife Federation because of their
many programs that encourage environmental participation from
the ground level.
Photography
Having a father with a deep interest in photography influenced
Dave's passion for this art. Occasionally, his photos have
accompanied our articles in magazine publications.
Dave's nature photography was
used in the design of the covers for two of our own books
as well as appearing in various tourist and travel publications.
