Children's Services

Children are always welcome at our library; we strive to develop our collection and offer programs that will help children form a life-long attachment to books and libraries. We have board books for babies, picture books, informational books, fairy and folk tales, books for beginning readers, and novels for children and teens. We also have audiocassettes and videos especially for children and a collection of CD-Rom materials for use in the library. Parents and children are encouraged to ask library staff for readers' advisory help, or for help locating specific items or information on specific subjects.

Regular programs for children include pre-school storytime, the Red Cedar Book Club and the Summer Reading Program. Special programs for children include author visits and seasonal activities.

With the increases in Internet usage by all age groups, children are being exposed to vast numbers of web sites, chat rooms, e-mail pals etc. If your children are online at home, at friend's homes or on our public access computers, we strongly recommend you talk to them about online safety.

To learn more about online safety, and for examples of online safety contracts that children and their parents can agree to, please check out SafeKids.com, The Librarian's Guide to CyberSpace for Parents & Kids or Web Awareness for Parents.
