These two illustrations are from Freedom, a high-relief wall sculpture done in 3 panels, with relief sections extending beyond the frame and featuring a detachable moth.

"BUTTERFLIES: About forty butterflies (and two moths) covering 25 different Australian species have been depicted in varying degrees of detail. I used artistic license to tone up or tone down the butterflies' colors to specifically suit the overall design and flow of the flight: a hot orange butterfly might become a shade of tan, for example. I wanted the butterflies to complement each other rather than to highlight individuals." ...Annemieke Mein

"FLOWERS: Specimens of Australian clematis (Clematis artistata) were collected at Golden Beach near Sale. They had a delicate, unobtrusive quality that suited the central panel. The petals and leaves were made to sit in semi-relief, with plied cotton and French knots used for their stamens. Several leaves hang free over the frame to break up the dominant bottom frame-line." ...Annemieke Mein
